Sept. 6 – A Westmoreland County Jail inmate is charged with attempting to improperly grab a nurse and attacking a prison guard on the same day last month, court documents show.
Joe Paul Biller, 37, of Mt. Pleasant, is charged with aggravated assault, common assault and indecent assault.
A nurse was delivering medicine at 8 p.m. on August 25 to the jail when Westmoreland County detectives said Biller reached through his cell door and tried to grab his crotch, according to court documents. The nurse jumped back out of Biller’s reach and prison guards arrived to take her to a disciplinary unit.
Investigators said Biller headbutted a guard as he was moved. Bail has been set at $50,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 13. He had no lawyer listed in online court records.
Biller was incarcerated in Hempfield prison in February, according to prison records. He is awaiting trial in several cases, including one in which he is accused of operating a methamphetamine lab from a car in Mt. Pleasant and a second in which he is accused of fighting with police officers in under a mental health warrant.
