Nate Jones is the only person on the planet to have played for Greg Schiano, Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick. Jones is a Renaissance globetrotter who played in defensive field for the Rutgers from 2000 to 2003 before embarking on an NFL playing career that spanned from 2004 to 2011. These days, Jones is back in the league about to enter his fourth season as an NFL official. Scarlet Nation caught up with him by phone earlier this spring from his adopted hometown of Dallas, Texas, where he had just returned from a weeks-long vacation to London, Scotland and France.

“I’ve traveled to 80, 85 countries,” he said. “I am not yet a hundred years old but yes I am a great traveler.”

Being single helps Jones have the flexibility to travel as much as he does.

Throughout the many miles, Jones remains a Jersey guy at heart.

“I love coming from Jersey, I’m a Jersey boy,” he says. “I feel like if you can survive Jersey, you can survive anywhere,” he adds with a laugh. “So, I just traveled the world. I like to meet new people, to know new cultures. I’m functional in Spanish, not fluent at all, but I can get by, ordering food, that sort of thing. I would really like to know more languages,” he continued. “When you travel the world, Google Translate is your best friend.”
